Note: It has been said, "death begins in the colon." The colon normally contains the most, naturally occurring, biochemical toxins on their way out of the body. The longer this waste material remains in the colon the more putrid and toxic it becomes. For this reason the colon should be cleansed first for the best detoxification results. Cleansing the colon can be a great help in resolving a wide range of ill health problems.

Herbs have been used safely and very effectively for centuries and work a little slower than enemas or colonics in detoxifying the colon, however in time can achieve excellent results. Different herbs perform different actions, and therefore produce different results, so it's important to identify your goal when choosing your herbal colon cleansing strategy. Some colon cleansing herbs like cascara sagrada work like a laxative, while other herbs such as peppermint stimulate digestion and peristalsis.


Some perform a scrubbing action that eliminates fecal matter and prevents toxic build up, and others kill harmful bacteria and parasites. While others soften the stool, add bulk and improve the function of colon muscles that promotes healthy and regular bowel movements.

Many pre-mixed combinations also include other herbs that help flush and enhance the functioning of the liver and or kidneys as well. Most include some sort of herb that promotes bile flow and stimulates the liver. Herbal colon cleansing products come in a variety of different forms which may include teas, tinctures, extracts, leaf, capsules or powders.
 

Colon Cleansing Foods:
It's important to avoid eating all fatty, highly refined and/or foods with artificial additives during a gallbladder cleanse or detoxification.


While you may choose from several products for helping you cleanse your colon, colon cleansing foods can also help you get started. In addition, eating only these foods can help keep your colon clean and possibly reduce the need to conduct routine colon cleansing. Of course, most of us splurge now and again on foods we know aren’t healthy for us. Therefore, the most effective health regimen is to perform an occasional colon cleansing in addition to eating beneficial foods.

Fruits & Vegetables - The Ultimate Colon Cleansing Foods;
Among the best foods you can include in your diet are fresh fruits and raw uncooked vegetables. Fruits and vegetables help alleviate and prevent constipation when eaten regularly. To get the most benefit out of these cleansing foods, you should consume at least five servings every day.

Locally grown fruits and vegetables are among the best foods to add to your diet because they are high in fiber, which is found naturally in plant matter. Dietary fiber cannot be digested by your body, so it binds to the water within your digestive tract. This helps keep water inside your intestines and helps to soften the stool by adding bulk.

There are a number of fruits and vegetables you can include in your diet to help keep your colon working efficiently. Some of these foods will help lubricate your bowels as well. As a result, your waste can pass through more easily.

During the cleanse use alkalizing foods, in a ratio of at least 4:1 over acid-forming foods. Below are foods to eat and not eat for gallbladder health.

  • Whole Grain Breads & Oats;
    You can add more fiber to your diet with whole, unprocessed breads and grains. Oat bran and wheat breads are particularly effective as colon cleansing foods because they provide high amounts of fiber. Therefore, whole-wheat bread (not enriched or bleached) and whole grain rice are excellent staples to have on the menu.

    When you increase the amount of fiber in your diet, it is important to also increase the amount of purified water you drink. If your body becomes dehydrated, your stool will become dry, hard, and difficult to pass. Increasing the amount of fiber without also increasing your water intake will exacerbate that problem. Therefore, be sure to include at least eight 8-ounce glasses of purified water in your meal plan each day.


    Common Colon Cleansing Herbs:
    Strong laxative herbs;
  • Cascara Sagrada has been used for a long time by Native Americans and is one of the most popular colon cleansing herbs used today. It contains compounds called anthroquinones that work as an herbal laxative and helps to strengthen the muscle tone of the walls of the colon. Stronger muscle tone leads to elimination of constipation.
  • Senna Is another strong herbal laxative with many beloved admirers. It too very works quickly; usually shortly after you've taken it. This herb is usually taken in tea form and also works as a purgative and stimulates peristaltic contractions, thus moving the fecal matter out of your colon and cleansing naturally.
    Caution: Some people report that Senna makes them feel nauseous. Adding a little ginger or cinnamon to the tea can help relieve this.

    Stimulate digestion herbs;
  • Slippery Elm If you're looking for a good "all-purpose herb," beneficial for the colon, then Slippery Elm is the herb for you. It is very effective for both constipation and diarrhea. This amazing herb normalizes the stool while it soothes, coats and heals the lining of your intestines. It works best if you drink plenty of water when taking it.
  • Chickweed Another great herb for relieving constipation and cleaning out the colon is Chickweed. This is a relatively fast acting herb and will usually cause a bowel movement within several hours. It also flushes out toxins and helps strengthen the stomach muscles and the colon which helps build long term success in preventing constipation.
  • Rhubarb Like Cascara Sagrada, this herb traditionally used in Chinese medicine also contains the compound anthraquinones, which promotes bowel movements. However, it also contains another compound called tannins, which is believed to relieve diarrhea and reduce inflammation in the colon. It is found in extract, capsule or dried root form and you can usually see results within six to twelve hours after consumption. This is not the same rhubarb plant that grew in your back yard when you were little.
  • Fennel Seed which enhances digestion, reduces gas, and relieves lower abdominal pain.
  • Aloe Vera which soothes and heals the intestinal lining.
  • Peppermint which stimulates peristalsis and soothes the intestine.

    Colon cleansing herbs that kill parasites;
  • Clove
  • Tea Tree Oil
  • Black Walnut Hulls
  • Wormwood
  • Pumpkin Seed
  • False Unicorn Root

  • Keep in mind that herbs are very powerful remedies and can have side effects. There can also be interactions with prescription drugs. If you're taking any drugs, be sure to discuss this with your alternative health doctor before taking any herbal colon cleansing remedies.

    Do not continue usage of a product if you develop diarrhea, excessively loose stools, or abdominal pain. If you develop nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, joint pains, headache, rashes, irritation in the rectum area or just plain don't feel good, you may be cleansing too quickly and your body is not capable of dealing with it adequately. Discontinue usage if this occurs until you feel better and then resume cleansing at a slower pace.

    Equipment;
    1. Quart jar (glass) with rubber seal lid (Mason is excellent)
    2. Blender (2-3 HP electric is best)
    3. Juicer (electric is best)

    Should drink as least 8 oz. of formula each day to start and increase up to 32 oz. (1 qt. or liter) each day for best results.
