The Foundational Cause of Heart Disease

Despite the fact that nearly 30% of Americans currently take expensive, extremely dangerous statin drugs combined with attempts to reduce saturated fat consumption, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before. Heart disease has recently fallen behind cancer as the number one killing disease in America. According to the American Heart Association, nearly 80 million Americans currently suffer from heart disease, over 20 million have diabetes, and around 60 million are pre-diabetic.

These so-called diseases are affecting younger people in greater numbers each year. The unhealthy chronic behavior habits causing the problems are becoming worse and more widespread. In fact, this health destructive behavior (standard American diet - SAD) is becoming a widely accepted lifestyle results in the current epidemic of degenerative disease like, obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer. Yes! Mainstream allopathic (drug based) medicine is loosing the battle on not only heart disease but degenerative disease in general. The one modern measure that has made a remarkable difference with heart disease is advanced surgical techniques designed to restore blood flow. Unfortunately these surgical advancements do nothing to mediate recurrence of the heart disease problem which is largely behavioral in nature. In fact most who undergo heart surgery experience a recurrence of the same problem within ten years. The reason is, surgery only solves the symptom of the disease not the foundational cause of the disease unhealthy behavior habits). So, what is heart disease, how does it develop, and how can we avoid becoming victims? This article answers these questions in a simple and understandable way. The best place to start is, what is heart disease?

What is Heart Disease?
Simply put, heart disease is a structural or functional problem of the heart, or of the blood circulatory system supplying the heart, that impairs normal, healthy function. Frequently this is a restriction of blood flow which deprives the health of essential things (oxygen & nutrients) required for proper function.

What is the Primary Cause of Not Only Heart but Other Degenerative Diseases - Chronic Unhealthy Behavior Habits
Now you might ask, would knowledgeable people intentionally expose themselves to foods or other substances that are known to cause health degenerative injury? The answer is a profound YES! It might come as no surprise that smokers are not the only group of consciously health destructive people. Most know that that excessive consumption of sugar, saturated fat, and salt are unhealthy. Lesser known health destructive foods include nearly all cooked and processed so-called foods. These foods contain little or no nutrients required to maintain health. Unfortunately these extremely popular unhealthy products are currently flying off the shelves at an ever increasing rate in spite of the fact that they are scientifically proven to be serious health threats. It is crystal clear that short term pleasure overwhelmingly overrides long term health benefits when it comes to American consumptive and behavior habits. In fact, significantly more money is spent each year on vanity (make-up and appearance related products) than health related products. This is overwhelming evidence that most folks are currently vastly more concerned about their appearance than their general health. Health generally stays off the radar screen until illness or disease occurs. Unfortunately the problem is much more difficult to To make things worse, heart disease is not caused by just unhealthy consumptive habits alone, the lack of regular exercise and effective emotional management is partly to blame for the current heart disease problems in America. More on this later.

Common Health Destructive Consumption - Standard American Diet (SAD)
Most Americans simply follow the standard American diet (SAD). The SAD diet is fraught with ill health generating problems. It is loaded with excessive calories, sugar, saturated fat, protein, highly refined fast foods, while extremely low in fiber, essential fatty acid (EFA's) balance, enzymes and nearly devoid of natural health sustaining micronutrients. Many health professionals believe that SAD is responsible for most of the current degenerative ill health (cancer, heart disease, diabetes, osteoporosis) epidemic in America. This chronic unhealthy consumptive behavior perpetuates chronic inflammation leading to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and cancer just to name a few. YES! The inflammation and injury in our circulatory system is almost entirely self inflicted through the SAD diet and chronic unhealthy habitual behavior.
To illustrate, let's examine some of the most damaging unhealthy foods currently habitually consumed by Americans.
1. Candies (all)
2. Baked treats (pies, pastries, cakes, cookies etc.)
3. Fried foods (all)
4. Highly processed, largely unnatural foods
All the above so-called foods contain excess amounts of dangerous agents the body doesn't recognize as food. First, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) from excessive sugar consumption causes internal biochemical havoc causing a wide range of ill health problems including circulatory and systemic inflammation. Second, fat (lipid) imbalance results in many other biochemical imbalances cascading into many ill health problems. Finally, excessive protein results in systemic acidosis which causes a plethora of ill health problems as well. Perhaps worse, is the SAD diet contains is nearly devoid in micronutrients which are essential to maintain health and vitality.

Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's)
Behind sugar, the lack of essential fatty acid (EFA) balance causes a cascade of ill health problems. One of the big problems is omega oil imbalance. While omega-6 oil is essential, it is part of every cell membrane controlling diffusion (what goes in and out of every healthy cell). If omega fat balance shifts by consuming excessive omega-6, the cell membrane produces chemicals called cytokines that directly cause inflammation. Today's mainstream SAD diet has produced an extreme imbalance of omega fatty acids. The ratio of imbalance with SAD ranges from 15:1 to 30:1 favoring omega-6 over omega-3. A 3:1 omega-6 to omega-3 ratio is optimal for health. The excess fat carried by many Americans and chromic consumption of inflammatory encouraging foods creates overloaded fat cells that pour out enormous quantities of pro-inflammatory chemicals that add to systemic biological injury caused by hyperglycemia (high blood sugar). The process that began with SAD turns into a vicious cycle over time that creates chronic hyperglycemia and high blood pressure (HBP), heart disease, diabetes as well as other neurological degenerative conditions like Alzheimer's, as the chronic inflammatory process continues its destructive effects on health. the simple fact is, the more processed foods consumed, the more pressure is applied to systemic (widespread) inflammation each day. The human body was not designed to consume, nor can it process foods with excess refined sugars or excess omega-6 oils. The best way to mediate the insidious nature of SAD consumptive habits that perpetuate inflammation is returning to a predominant diet of foods closer to their natural state (raw).

How to Develop Healthier Behavior Habits
The following are ideas on how to develop habits more aligned with mans natural optimal health requirements.
1. Eat only when hungry (excessive calories causes many health problems)
2. Reduce or totally eliminate processed food consumption (this means cooked foods as well)
3. Reduce or totally eliminate inflammation causing simple sugar in favor of raw, fresh colorful fruits and vegetables
4. Reduce or totally eliminate inflammation causing omega-6 fats like corn and soybean oil favoring omega-3 oil foods like cold water fish
5. Exercise regularly
6. Build muscle to achieve optimal body mass index (BMI)
7. Consume prudent amounts of protein

Oil use (1 tablespoon = omega-6 oil)
- 1. Corn oil = 7,280 mg
- 2. Soybean oil = 6,940 mg
Instead of the above, use extra virgin olive oil for salads and other low temperature applications.
If you must cook, use extra virgin coconut oil only. Coconut oil is a healthy medium chain saturated fat. recently, coconut oil has been found to be very healthy in fact cure some health (fat imbalance) problems. Interestingly, animal fats contain less than 20% omega-6 and are much less likely to cause inflammation than the reportedly healthy polyunsaturated oil fats. A good practice (rule of thumb), never consume polyunsaturated oil. Forget the "science" that you have been conditioned to believe for decades. The science that saturated fat alone causes heart disease is not only non-existent, the statement is simply false. The science that saturated fat raises blood cholesterol is also extremely weak. Since we now know that cholesterol is not the cause of heart disease, the concern about saturated fat is even more false today.

The Cholesterol Theory
The so-called high cholesterol epidemic has lead to an industry with $29 billion annual revenues for big pharma. The profit incentive alone is reason for significant concern if not the health aspects. The cholesterol theory of heart disease led to the no-fat and low-fat recommendations that resulted in the very foods that are causing the real current epidemic of systemic inflammatory related diseases. Mainstream medicine made a colossal mistake when it advised people to avoid saturated fat in favor of foods high in omega-6 fats. This mistake (if it was a actually a mistake) is currently resulting in literally thousands of people suffering from early degenerative diseases and death. We now have an epidemic of arterial inflammation leading to heart disease along with other silent disease killers. Was this a mistake or engineered design to increase profits, power and control???

The simple reality is, absent inflammation, cholesterol would not accumulate along the internal wall of the arteries causing heart disease. In short, absent inflammation, cholesterol would flow freely throughout the body as nature intended. Yes! It is inflammation that causes circulatory problems referred to as heart disease. Inflammation is not really a complicated subject, it’s a natural defense response to stress, the presence of toxins like unnatural chemical accumulation causing biochemical imbalance, creating an environment ideal for pathogenic colonization (fungus, bacteria, and virus) commonly called disease. The cycle of inflammation is perfect in how it protects your body from stress and foreign chemical accumulation. If we chronically expose the body to toxins resulting from an unhealthy toxic environment combined with unhealthy behavior lead by consumptive habits (unnatural chemically toxic, biochemical unbalancing foods) of which the human body was not designed to process, inflammation encourages blood flow to clean out toxins and repair damaged tissues. Chronic inflammation is extremely insidious because it goes largely unnoticed for years even decades inflicting its wrath on health and vitality.

Cause of Inflammation
What are the main causes of chronic inflammation? Excess consumption of the following in this order.
1. Highly processed carbohydrates (SUGAR, flour and all the products made from them) - especially high fructose corn syrup
2. Animal based protein (meat, dairy) and their associated saturated fats
3. Omega-6 vegetable oils like soybean, corn, and sunflower that are found in most processed foods creating an imbalance of omega 3-6-9 fatty acids
In short, the main cause of heart disease is the chronic excess consumption of sugar, fat and animal proteins combined with the lack of regular exercise. While we enjoy the taste delight of these sugar and fat rich products, the bodies chemistry responds alarmingly with an aggressive immune response as if a foreign invader arrived declaring war, it's leukocytosis on steroids. Foods loaded with simple sugar carbohydrates and processed with omega-6 oils for long shelf life and saturated fat ladened animal proteins have become an extremely popular, large part of the American diet and highly profitable for over 50 years now. The chronic consumption of these unhealthy foods is in direct proportion to the epidemic amount of degenerative heart disease and other serious inflammatory health problems.

Chronology of Heart Disease (Arthrosclerosis - Hardening of Arteries)
Heart disease is progressive, meaning it takes time to develop the layers of circulatory degradation. Below are the health compromising steps on which circulatory heart disease accumulates.
1. Chronic unhealthy behavior habits (lifestyle).
2. Compulsive unhealthy consumptive habits - excessive consumption of sugar, fat and animal protein.
3. Unhealthy consumptive habits causes advanced glycation end products (AGEs), a result of hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and oxidant stress which is an ugly form of rapid aging and tissue/skin hardening (protein crosslinking). AGEs is a biochemical response to excessive sugar consumption which results in systemic inflammation.
4. Excessive emotional stress contributing along with diet to hyper tension (high blood pressure - HBP) is circulatory inflammation.
5. High blood pressure causes artery damage (microscopic tears in the artery walls requiring a cholesterol patch healing response and scar tissue. Damaged artery walls are uneven surfaces and trap/accumulate more fat (cholesterol and plaque).
6. Lack of regular exercise (lethargy) results in general lower blood total flow and oxygen levels causing systemic biological and biochemical degradation. This general health degradation allows systemic biological degradation (rapid aging), illness and disease to progress unchecked.
7. Sclerotic (calcified) arterial plaque formation (hardening of arteries) and occluded/blocked blood flow which causes heart attach, stroke and many other life threatening ill challenges (advanced arterial, HEART DISEASE).
Hopefully the above explanation of progressive heart disease illustrates that most in not all is a direct result of chronic unhealthy behavior habits. In short the progressive degenerative diseases common today are totally preventable by simply changing chronic unhealthy behavior to predominantly healthy behavior.

Heart Disease – The Silent Killer
It is called the silent killer because heart disease can go unnoticed for literally years until death occurs. Arteries up to 90% occluded (closed) many times are non symptomatic. Even standard physical exams can fail to recognize advanced heart disease. These realities make heart disease perhaps the most dangerous of all degenerative diseases as it can strike a deadly blow without warning. According to the US Center for Disease Control (CDC) the below are the 2012 statistics relating to heart disease in America.
- Non institutionalized adults with diagnosed heart disease = 26.5
- Percentage of non institutionalized adults with diagnosed heart disease = 11.5%
Ambulatory care
- Visits to physician offices with heart disease, excluding ischemic, as primary diagnosis = 12.4 million
- Visits to hospital outpatient departments with heart disease, excluding ischemic, as primary diagnosis = 2.0 million
Hospital inpatient care
- Discharges with heart disease as first-listed diagnosis = 3.7 million
- Average length of stay = 4.6 days
Home health care
- Current patients with heart disease as primary diagnosis = 9.3% - 135,700 (2007)
Hospice care
- Discharges with heart disease as primary diagnosis = 11.2% - 117,400 (2007)
Nursing home care
- Residents with heart disease = 42.6% - 635,000
- Number of deaths = 597,689
- Deaths per 100,000 population = 193.6
- Cause of death USA rank = 1
2012 Cost of Heart Disease
- Nearly $110 billion
Yes! Heart disease is not only responsible for enormous suffering it cost much more than money in the form of lost economic and social productivity.

Prudent Corrective Action
What can be done to correct this problem? Prudent corrective action comes in the form of changing consumptive habits from unhealthy SAD to one of a predominately whole, raw, non processed and cooked foods. Yes! Start shopping predominantly in the produce section and avoid the grocery store aisles filled with manufactured foods. By eliminating inflammatory foods and adding essential nutrients in rich supply in natural, fresh unprocessed food, you can eliminate inflammation, reverse years of circulatory damage throughout the body, and restore the body’s natural healing properties. The common diseases currently plaguing humans are simply natural responses to biological imbalance. In short, they are outward expressions (symptoms) of inward health problems (biological imbalance - illness and disease). Since these problems are self inflicted, they are entirely self correctable should one develop predominantly healthy lifestyle complete with healthy consumption, regular exercise and emotional stability.

Millions of Americans are currently suffering from degenerative coronary heart diseases. Many will needlessly die each year from this disease. The foundational cause of coronary heart disease is chronic inflammation resulting from unhealthy consumptive habits (excessive refined sugar and fat consumption – SAD). Fortunately, contrary to what we are lead to believe by the high profits medical and drug industries is, degenerative heart & circulatory disease can be reversed, even cured by changing to a predominately whole, raw, non processed food diet. All humans will eventually die, but illness and disease are not necessary if we adopt healthy behaviors and consumptive habits.
