Kidney cleansing is extremely important. The kidneys are the body's liquid
filtration system. They provide hormones that regulate blood pH, blood cell production, and remove toxic waste from the blood.
Liquid waste materials pass through the kidneys to be filtered and eliminated.
When we eat or drink digestion/metabolism produces biochemical toxic
waste byproducts that must be removed from the body quickly. Protein digestion produces
especially toxic biochemical byproducts that must be removed even more quickly
to reduce biological degradation and damage (aging).
Kidneys enlarge due to the added workload of protein metabolism. Protein
digestion and metabolism leads to the release of highly toxic waste materials like ammonia and
urea. This is especially so when there is high consumption of animal protein food products
like meat and dairy.
The kidney filtration/detoxification system also serves to regulate the amount of sodium,
chloride, sulfate, phosphate, and hydrogen compounds in the body. It prevents
them from accumulating by providing a way out through the urine.
The kidneys along with the liver are the hardest working detoxifying systems in our body and
serves to protect and maintain optimal health. Because of this extremely
important cleansing and detoxification role, the kidneys are highly
sensitive to standard American consumptive habits which overload with animal
protein products (meat & dairy), sodium,
refined sugar, processed foods, alcohol and tobacco that put enormous undue stress on
healthy kidney function. The kidneys are particularly sensitive to heavy metals like
lead and mercury that can cause extensive kidney damage.
Similar to the colon detoxification, once there is a reduction of liquid/water
consumption or elimination, it is very likely that urine passed will have a more
pungent odor. The reason is accumulated waste within the body, especially ammonia
and urea, as a result of not drinking adequate amounts of water to flush out the
toxic wastes. Allowing toxic wastes to stagnate in the body can also
lead to a number of problems like urinary system infections and failure.
Adequate amounts of water, in general, is at least 8 glasses of water each
day. A more scientific hydration rule of thumb is one ounce of water for every
two pounds of body weight. This means that a 200 lbs. person would need to
consume 100 ounces of fluid daily to properly hydrate the body. This 1 for 2
rule is especially important with highly active people. This amount of
liquid serves to assist the kidneys in flushing out as much waste from the body
as possible as
well as rehydrating the water lost from urinating.
The best water for internal cleansing the body is steam distilled water. Remember
that filtered and spring water is preferred to tap water. There are too many
toxic chemicals and
even heavy metals in tap water. When consumed tap water can lead to further accumulation
of chemical toxic build-up at the cellular level which can lead to
illnesses, and degenerative life threatening disease.
There are herbs and foods that have been shown to assist in building kidney
health and enhance its ability to filter toxins more efficiently. The kidney is
sensitive and subject to problems like slow urine flow, inflammation, accumulation
of uric acid, and crystal formation.
Fresh, raw fruit and vegetable juices assist in kidney detoxification. Fresh, raw
fruit and vegetable juices are the cleansers, energizers, builders, and regenerators
of all the human system. A combination of a variety of either fresh, raw fruits
and/or vegetable juices will supply most if not all the enzymes, vitamins, minerals,
protein and fats critical in restoring health and increased vitality! Perhaps the
way to cleanse the kidneys is called the "Watermelon cleanse".
By adding live, fresh, organic juices to one's diet as a daily routine, one will
experience the rejuvenating effect and healing of various illnesses and
diseases like cancer, arthritis, arthrosclerosis, high blood pressure, kidney
disorders, skin infections, liver disorders and many, many more.
Supplying the body with easily-absorbed liquid nutrients, while the body is
cleansing itself is prudent and pays huge health restoration dividends. Cranberry
juice has a reputation of providing excellent cleansing properties for the kidney and bladder.
Juice fasting and a diet high in raw food can greatly benefit the kidneys as well as
the entire body.
It's important to avoid eating all fatty, highly refined and/or foods with artificial additives during a
kidney cleanse or detoxification.
Also during the cleanse use alkalizing foods, in a ratio of 4:1 over acid-forming foods.

Kidney & Bladder Flush/Cleanse:
Citrus Firewater Flush Ingredients (makes 1 qt.);
1. Distilled Water (steamed only) (24-32 oz.)
2. Grapefruit/Lemon/Lime/Orange/Apple (1-6 oz. fresh squeezed juice)
3. Cayenne Pepper (powder or tincture, starts mild and increase to as hot as you
can one stand)
4. Maple B or C grade syrup (raw only) (optional) for taste
5. Garlic Clove (1-? cloves, start with 1 and increase)
6. Ginger Root (about 3-4" long)
The following herbs have different, but beneficial effects on the kidney and
urinary system. Some are very nutritious, some help reduce inflammation and
promote healing of the urinary tract, while others are antibacterial, antiseptic,
and increase the removal of waste products. Many have a diuretic effect.
1. Couch Grass - is a diuretic and the mucilage helps soothe an inflamed and
irritated urinary tract. It also helps heal the urinary tract and increases the
amount of urine by the osmotic process.
2. Uva Ursi (Bearberry) - is a urinary antiseptic, and an astringent herb. It
has an antibacterial effect on the kidney that is effective against e.coli,
proteus, klebsiella, staphyloccocus, and pseudomonas.
3. Horsetail - is high in silica, and is used as an astringent in the
genitourinary tract. It is also a diuretic. It has been found to reduce the
levels of lead in the body, and there is evidence of an anti-rheumatic effect
and a positive effect on lipid [fat] metabolism. The increased volume of urine
helps flush out irritants and infectious agents. The astringent action may help
with bladder tone and the reduction of prostate enlargement. The high levels of
silica help with tissue repair.
4. Nettle - is highly nutritious, with vitamins and minerals including
chlorophyll and beta carotene, vitamins A, B2, C and E, calcium, potassium,
and iron. It also has been proven to increase the elimination of the waste
product, uric acid. It is a diuretic, and has been found successful in managing
the symptoms of benign prostatic hypertrophy, particularly in combination with
5. Corn Silk - has a lot of vitamin K and potassium. It is used for acute or
chronic inflammation of the urinary tract, cystitis, prostatitis, night time
urination, and urethritis. Corn silk is not a well studied herb, but it is a
diuretic. In China, it is used for edema. It also has antiseptic properties,
and is soothing to the urinary tract.
6. Hydrangea - has alkaloids that act like cortisone and has the same cleansing
power as chaparral but is specifically useful for preventing gravel deposits from
forming. It is known as a remedy for gravel and helps relieve the pain when the
formations pass through the ureters from the kidneys to the bladder.
7. Gravel Root - is used in the treatment of renal or urinary calculi (stones)
caused by excess uric acid (meat consumption); hence it is also useful as an
astringent tonic, diuretic, stimulant, antilithic and anti-rheumatic.
8. Marshmallow Root - contains mucilage which helps aid the expectorant
influence of difficult phlegm. It heals inflammation and prevents gangrene and
other infections such as open wounds. It is a great healing herb and has powerful
anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties. It contains 286,000 units of
vitamin A per pound and is rich in calcium and extremely rich in zinc. It also
contains iron, sodium, iodine, B-complex and pantothenic acid.
9. Fresh Parsley - is an excellent diuretic and is used for edema and
dissolving urinary stones. It also helps increase the elimination of waste
products like urea and other acidic metabolites (promotes bile flow).
10. Goldenrod - is used as and anti-inflammatory and expectorant agent.
1. Quart jar (glass) with rubber seal lid (Mason is excellent)
2. Blender (any blender that blends fruits and vegetables will work - it's important to blend regularly not to have a designer blender)
3. Juicer (electric is best)
Drink at least 8 oz. of blended formula each day to start and increase up to
32-64 oz. (1 qt. or liter) each day for best results.
The following are prudent steps to a successful kidney cleansing
1. Cleanse your kidney by drinking ample amounts of citrus, firewater
drink, fruit and/or vegetable juice to flush out the kidneys. Herbs can help as
well but selecting proper herbs listed above to depend on the amount of
dysfunction and the length of time dysfunction has been present. There are many
excellent herbal kidney detoxification products available on the market.
2. While cleansing the kidneys, you should replenish the beneficial
bacteria to flora balance, which in turn helps the immune system operate at
