How to Effectively Conduct a pH Litmus Test
Your Personal Health Compass

Congratulations for taking the first vital step on your journey toward achieving ultimate health. It’s important to understand that while pH litmus testing is a very powerful tool in effectively managing internal biochemistry, it is a tool and only has power if it is prudently, effectively and frequently utilized. Perhaps the most important piece of the achieving ultimate health formula is making the commitment to achieving ultimate health then taking the appropriate action required to achieve the goal.

pH litmus test
The pH litmus is perhaps the most powerful tool in the battle for optimal health. I call the pH test "the health compass". It tells you when a coarse change is necessary. Like navigating a boat, the destination is frequently not visible making the compass vitally important to make constant coarse corrections to keep the ship heading toward the destination. Litmus testing operate the same way. Because optimal health is not clearly defined, perfect pH is (7.365) and serves as a destination point. Frequent pH tests are conducted to see if health is on course. This is done by measuring either saliva or urine pH. When the pH deviates toward acid, corrective action is required to restore pH back into a healthy slightly alkaline range.

Saliva
Saliva pH tests must be done at least a half hour before consumption or the result may be inaccurate. The best time to conduct saliva test is first thing in the morning before brushing teeth. Properly conducted saliva pH test are generally considered to be twice as valuable as urine pH tests.

Urine
Urine pH tests can be conducted any time. As such they will constitute the majority of the frequent pH test that is necessary to develop a personal pH profile.

Logging/recording test results
It’s important to record all litmus tests in a personal log book. Test result as well as an ongoing record will not only be used to determine what modulating strategies work but to analyze the state of your personal biochemical state and the direction of health progress.

Conducting a pH litmus test
Test results and recordings must be honest and accurate. After all cheating or inaccurate recordings only heart you and your ability to make the most rapid health progress possible.
1. Pull out and tare off a 1-1.5” strip of pH litmus test paper.
2. Immerse one end of the litmus test paper into saliva or urine.
3. Wait for 1-2 minutes to let the litmus paper yield it pH results.
4. Match the pH litmus paper to the color code on the pH litmus test box.
5. Write the test result in a personal pH log book.
6. Analyze test results and trend to navigate health much like a captain uses a compass to stir a boat.

Litmus tests should be conducted and recorded after all consumption and activity to develop an intimate feel of what encourages acid production and what encourages alkaline production. Mastering the ability to control the ebb and flow of the internal biochemical pH swings is the key to effectively managing health as well as mediating and eliminating illness and disease. Learning how your personal internal biochemistry responds to all different stimuli is essential to achieving ultimate health. The best results are realized when all consumption and activity are recorded, evaluated and analyzed. For this reason, I encourage students to record every litmus test, everything consumed and all other life activities to develop a better understanding of what modulates internal biochemistry toward health and away from health. Of course the trick is to develop consistent predominantly healthy.

Since behavior habits and nutrition are critical components of human health and longevity, denial, shortcuts and misguided beliefs can be very costly not only in terms of lost monetary wealth but in compromised health leading to rapid aging, illness, disease and death. The important thing to remember is consumptive habits (foods) will form the foundation of either optimal health or illness and disease. The old saying "you are what you eat" is absolutely true when it comes to health.

Developing strong personal character (respect, belief, knowledge, discipline, commitment) are the cornerstones of all personal excellence accomplishments.
