How to Resolve the Health Dangers of Overconsumption

Much of the health related problems today (heart disease, cancer, diabetes,
osteoporosis, arthritis etc.) can be traced to excessive consumptive habits.
Many humans in developed countries have adopted an up-paced lifestyle to get
ahead in life, which has given rise to a highly destructive, fast foods habit.
Tragically, both high stress and excessive consumption impose devastating
consequences on human health.
There are a number of theories relating to the causes of rapid biological
degradation (aging), illness and disease, however most agree that
overconsumption is among the major contributors to most ill health problems. Currently,
America as well as most of the developed world is experiencing an epidemic
of over consumption, over weight and obesity related ill health problems. It is increasingly clear that
over consumption, rapid biological degeneration (aging) illness and disease
are closely related.
The latest statistics on obesity are reported by the “Wellness International
Network Ltd.” Their statistics are alarming at best or perhaps best described as a
rapidly approaching health disaster.
Obesity rates in the USA reach epidemic proportions
- 25% are totally sedentary (no exercise)
- 58 Million are overweight; 40 Million are obese; 3 Million are morbidly obese
- 76% increase in Type II diabetes among adults 30-40 yrs. since 1990
- 78% are failing to get enough healthy exercise
- 80% over age 25 are overweight
Fortunately the news in not all bad. Mexico recently overcame America as the
fattest country in the world. Not to make light of this serious
problem, but being second in this unhealthy fat epidemic is nothing
to be proud of. We are paying dearly for this in terms of lost
production, health care cost and early onset of deadly illness and
disease followed closely by early death.
More illness and diseases related to overweight/obesity
- 26% High blood pressure
- 30% Gall bladder surgery
- 42% Breast and colon cancer
- 70% Cardiovascular disease
- 80% Type II diabetes
Childhood obesity is at epidemic levels
- 4% were overweight in 1982 & 16% were overweight in 1994 - a 400% increase
- 25% of all white children were overweight in 2001
- 33% of African American and Hispanic children were overweight 2001
- Hospital costs associated with childhood obesity rose from $35 Million in 1979 to $127 Million in 1999 - a 300+% increase
Childhood metabolic & heart problems
- New studies suggest that 25% of overweight children show early signs of (impaired glucose intolerance) type II diabetes
- 60% of which exhibit one or more risk factor for coronary heart disease
Childhood Diabetes surges
- 85% of Children diagnosed with Type II diabetes are obese
- Around 45% of childhood diabetes are type II and associated with obesity
- 4% of Childhood diabetes was type II in 1990, and has risen to approximately 20%, a 500% increase
- Depending on the age group (Type II most frequent 10-19 age group)
Change the tragic health consequences of over consumption and obesity
To make meaningful changes in personal behavior, one must develop strong commitments to the goal of change.
This can be accomplished quickly or never depending on the persons level of
commitment and circumstances. The most important part
of any change is belief. Hoping for change is a passive commitment at best and rarely produces desired results.
Belief means you have decided to make the changes, failure is not an option.
Those who accomplish remarkable
achievements believe in the goal, fully accept personal responsibility and nothing less than success will do.
If you want (overweight)
to change, you must change (behavior)
as overweight is largely a behavior habit (consumption) problem.
Health as well as illness and disease are a process and a byproduct of chronic
unhealthy behavior (lifestyle).
Because chronic unhealthy behavior is the primary cause of ill health problems, a health behavior change
is required for resolution. Frequently, people get satisfactory progress until they reach a particular
goal and then revert to old problem causing behavior that result in the return of the original ill health
problems. This is irrefutable evidence that, no matter how one believes in external causes for ill health
problems, the problem is personal in nature and the only solution is a change to consistent healthy behavior.
Usually the answers to health related problems are simple (restore internal biochemical balance).
Health usually boils down to personal responsibility, self-respect and discipline. Freedom from outside
influence, manipulation and control comes from taking absolute personal responsibility and action in life
to affect a desired outcome. Once people understand that things of value must be earned, and anything free,
either has strings attached or has little value, it becomes much easier to take personal responsibility if
one values freedom, liberty and personal accomplishment.
FUNDAMENTAL PROBLEM SOLVING STRATEGIES
1. Develop a clear understanding of the problem
2. Develop a path or plan for functional problem resolution
3. Develop a point of resolution (goal)
4. Develop the commitment and willpower to stay the course until resolution
Above are the basic steps to resolving all problems including ill health. Like many human
problems, developing a plan or strategy for problem resolution is not the biggest obstacle;
it is finding the willpower and discipline to effectively executing the plan. Physical and
emotional diversions appear along the way that not only impedes forward momentum but many
times derail progress and chances for success.
Because over consumption is the primary cause of overweight, obesity and ill health problems,
less consumption is the obvious solution. Again, the answer is simple but the solution is hard. While
the root cause of over consumption has many variations, all lead to the same general problem, ill
health and premature biological degeneration (aging & death). Many would argue that over consumption is a
symptom of a problem outside personal control. While this may be the case, trying to resolve any
problem by assigning blame to factors outside personal control, summarily rejects a tenant essential
for personal problem resolution, personal responsibility.
Calorie Restriction Optimum Nutrition (CRON)
The CRON consumptive regimen is not only an excellent way
to reduce weight given any body configuration, it is the only scientifically proven method
to lengthen life span in animals and is the healthiest consumptive regimen as well. The CRON principle
as the name implies, is restricting calorie intake to only foods of extremely high nutrient density.
This is best accomplished by consuming a variety of fresh, raw, organic plant based foods.
Interestingly, for all practical purposes, a person can consume as much of these kinds of plant based
foods as they want with little risk of over calorie consumption. In addition, these kinds of nutrient dense foods
supply the body with essential nutrients required to not only build and repair, but to restore the body
to a state of natural optimal health.
Big industries are making huge profits by promoting unhealthy habitual
behavior
Yes, unhealthy lifestyle (habits) are at the foundation of many, if not most, of the ill health problems
currently confronting modern man. Unfortunately, habits are extremely hard, even seemingly impossible to
change. The food, medical and drug industries know this, which is why they continue the perpetual barrage
of attractive, compelling advertising to mold habitual consumptive behavior to
protect profits, power and control. Think about it, the more people consume
the more money the food industries make. Given the current ill health epidemic, directly traced to over
consumption of unhealthy foods, over weight and obesity, it is easy to see that not only is
the fast food industry making enormous profits
but the medical and drug industries are racking in the profits as well from
people who are getting sick from chronic unhealthy behavior and consumptive
habits.
Now you can see just how difficult this problem has become. There are enormously profitable industries that
wheedling enormous influence over those who have the power to change or protect the status quo. It boils done
to money and power. The sad reality is, there is much more money, profit and power in fast foods, illness and
disease than in health and wellness.
Government control
Currently, the governmental pursuit of change is resulting in fewer choices, less freedom
and liberty while
increasing control over our personal behavior (central planning -
communism/Marxism). Look at how the governments solution to the current ill
health epidemic. Instead or increasing healthy choices regarding health care and consumption,
they are attempting to reduce personal choices which only serves to protect the industries (food, health
care and drug) that created the current chronic ill health behavior and
resulting ill health problems.
If a person accepts the current overweight epidemic problem, the door to additional weight swings wide open and so on
to obesity, illness and disease. How can a problem be solved by accepting, even rewarding failure? When
people understand these facts, most see that the answer is not government control, rather personal
responsibility and the benefits of optimal health. There is an old cliché, "we get less of what we reject/penalize and more of what we
reward/subsidize."
Remember, no one including the government can give you health. Optimal health comes, not from government
mandates, control or entitlement giveaways, but rather from within each person
with self respect and personal responsibility. Health is the province of the body
only and personal habitual behavior. It is the byproduct or reward of personal respect, proper education,
consistent optimally healthy personal behavior and relentless pursuit of personal
health excellence.
Weight Loss Advice
It’s very important to remember, while it is possible to loose large amounts of weight quickly, especially in
the early stages of a weight loss program (mostly water weight loss), loosing more than 2-3 pounds a week can
exert enormous biological stress on the body which may result in increased biological damage (aging). For this
reason, it is advisable to focus on developing an optimally healthy lifestyle (form
the basis of life goals consisting of healthy emotional, activity and
consumptive habits), and pay less attention to the rate and amount of weight
lost loss. Rest assured that the body knows exactly what weight to be when
optimal health is achieved. Stay
the course of optimal health and let time work in your favor.
